A Cooperation Protocol for the development of a national large language model for the Serbian language was signed at the eGovernment House, officially launching one of the country’s most significant national projects in the fields of artificial intelligence and language technologies.
The Protocol was signed by the Office for IT and eGovernment together with 11 institutions and organizations, including the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, alongside leading institutions from the fields of science, culture, media, and language resources.
The goal of the project is to develop a national large language model tailored to the Serbian language, culture, and social context, contributing to the advancement of Serbia’s digital sovereignty and the further development of domestic AI technologies.
Through its research and development capacities, the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia will make a significant contribution to the development of the model, particularly in the areas of machine learning, natural language processing, and the development of advanced AI systems based on domestic data and language resources.
The project brings together relevant institutions that have actively worked in recent years on the digitization and preservation of linguistic and cultural content, laying the foundation for the development of modern AI solutions in the Serbian language.
The Protocol was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Đuro Macut. The event was also attended by the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, Marko Čadež, as well as the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Serbia, Yakup Berish.
The development of a national large language model represents an important step toward strengthening Serbia’s domestic AI ecosystem and creating technological solutions with broad applications across public administration, industry, education, science, and everyday life.
