Dr. Branka Rakić, team lead of the research group for AI in healthcare and lifescience, participated in the session “Voices of Innovation – Q&A on Serbia AI Use in the Public Sector,” held as part of the presentation of the UNDP Human Development Report for 2025 at the Palace of Serbia.
During the session, Dr. Rakić discussed specific examples of how artificial intelligence is being applied in the healthcare sector, as well as the importance of responsible data use and a multidisciplinary approach in the development of decision-support tools and initiatives aimed at improving quality of life.
The latest UNDP report, “A Matter of Choice: People and Possibilities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” recognizes AI as a key tool for sustainable development, despite slowing global progress and rising inequalities. Serbia is ranked 62nd out of 193 countries with a Human Development Index of 0.833, placing it among countries with a very high level of human development. Innovations in AI are seen as a significant contributor to further progress.
The Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia is actively involved in this process by developing innovative digital tools and systems based on AI that align with global sustainable development goals. Through scientific research, international cooperation, and partnerships with domestic institutions, the Institute strives to ensure that AI solutions are not only technologically advanced but also socially beneficial, fair, and accessible to all.
