IVI Participates in Discussion on AI Regulation in Serbia

How can we ensure the responsible development of artificial intelligence, protect citizens, and at the same time create an environment that encourages innovation and the growth of the domestic economy? This question was at the centre of the event organized by NALED within the StarTech project, which was also attended by IVI Senior Research Associate Dr Dragiša Mišković.

The main focus of the discussion was the draft Law on Artificial Intelligence, which introduces a legally binding framework for the development, deployment, and oversight of artificial intelligence systems and models in the Republic of Serbia. The proposed law is based on the principles of safety, transparency, accountability, data protection, and non-discrimination, while aligning with the European Union’s AI Act and the objectives of Serbia’s Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy until 2030.

During his presentation, Dr Mišković spoke about the opportunities for applying artificial intelligence in the public sector, as well as key global trends in AI regulation. Particular emphasis was placed on finding the right balance between fostering technological progress and ensuring the safe, responsible, and sustainable development and use of AI systems.

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia continues to actively contribute to the development of the AI ecosystem through knowledge exchange, support for research, and connecting innovation with the needs of society, the economy, and the public sector
