International Collaboration Driving Scientific Progress

Luka Vinokić, Research Associate at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, recently completed a professional research visit at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands, where he collaborated with Dr Robert Bentivogli and Professor Zoran Kapelan, researchers involved in the international ARTIFACT project.

During his stay, he worked on developing methodologies and models for predicting urban flooding and wastewater overflows under weather forecast uncertainty. In addition to his research activities, he took part in preparing and configuring equipment for field research. Regular discussions with professors and researchers also provided valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge and gain insights into different approaches to scientific research.

“Alongside expanding my knowledge through almost daily discussions with distinguished professors and researchers, I particularly valued the opportunity to learn more about how the European academic system operates, especially when it comes to the education and training of future researchers,” says Vinokić.

He notes that the experience contributed to his professional and scientific development, while also giving him a deeper understanding of educational approaches that he hopes to incorporate into his future mentoring work.

International academic collaboration gives researchers valuable opportunities to expand their expertise, explore new research practices and apply the knowledge and experience gained to their future scientific and professional endeavours.
