The Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia at the SpliTech 2025 Conference

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia (IVI) participated in the 10th international SpliTech 2025 conference, which brought together leading researchers, engineers, and experts in the fields of smart and sustainable technologies. Through lectures and workshops, IVI researchers presented applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare, deep learning, and time series analysis, with a special focus on practical AI solutions and interdisciplinary collaboration.

One of the highlights of the conference was the keynote lecture delivered by IVI’s Acting Director, Prof. Dr. Dubravko Ćulibrk, titled “AI-disrupted Medicine and How to Apply It”. Prof. Ćulibrk emphasized the transformative role of AI in modern medicine – from diagnostics and therapy planning to personalized healthcare and clinical decision support.

Through real-world examples in machine learning, big data processing, and computer vision, the keynote explored:

• how AI enables faster and more accurate diagnostics;
• ways to optimize treatment through AI systems;
• specific AI tools that support radiological practice;
• as well as the ethical and implementation challenges of applying AI in medicine.

In addition to lectures, IVI researchers led two expert workshops:

• “Fundamentals of Deep Learning”, led by IVI research associate Dr. Ilija Kamenko, introduced participants to the foundations of deep learning, model training, and applications in computer vision and natural language processing. Participants who completed the workshop received an internationally recognized NVIDIA DLI certificate.
• “Edge-Aware Time Series Analysis with Deep Learning”, delivered by Dr. Milovan Medojević, Nikola Marković, and Mladen Milić, focused on human activity recognition using time series sensor data. Participants worked in Google Colab using PyTorch, learning how to apply deep learning techniques in resource-constrained environments.

Participation in SpliTech 2025 once again highlights the importance and quality of IVI’s research efforts, as well as the growing relevance of artificial intelligence technologies in sectors that directly impact the quality of life.
