IVI Hosts EEML 2024 – Prestigious International Machine Learning School

The Eastern European Machine Learning Summer School (EEML) starts on July 15, 2024, and will be held for the first time in Serbia, at the campus of the Science and Technology Park in Novi Sad. The Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, in collaboration with a community of world-renowned scientists and the Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Novi Sad, has taken on the organization of this prestigious international event, which was launched in 2018.

“Our main goal in organizing EEML is to encourage the development and application of artificial intelligence in Serbia and the Eastern European region. We want to provide young researchers and students with the opportunity to connect with top experts from around the world, exchange knowledge and experiences, and enhance their skills. Additionally, we aim to showcase Serbia’s potential as a significant player in the field of artificial intelligence and attract the attention of the international AI community to our talents and projects”, emphasizes Prof. Dr. Dubravko Ćulibrk, Acting Director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia.

This year’s EEML will feature prominent lecturers from universities such as New York University, ETH Zürich, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and McGill University, as well as representatives from global tech companies like Google DeepMind, Genentech (Roche), Bitdefender, Microsoft, INSAIT, and PolyAI, along with our experts from the University of Belgrade and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia.

The Summer School program runs from July 15 to 20, 2024, and consists of six days of intensive training, including lectures, practical sessions, poster presentations by participants, introductory lectures by business sector representatives, and sponsor booth presentations. The school will enable young researchers and industry professionals, who will be attending from 47 countries, to learn from the world’s leading scientists in the field of AI.

This year’s Eastern European Machine Learning Summer School will gather more than 250 participants, with the largest number coming from Serbia and the region. This is a unique opportunity to bring together our best young experts, raise the level of expertise in artificial intelligence in the region, and showcase Serbia as a regional and globally relevant center of excellence.

The main goal of EEML is to popularize topics in machine learning and artificial intelligence across Europe, especially in Eastern Europe, and to encourage research in this domain. Participants will have the chance to deepen their knowledge and skills by exploring topics such as the basics of machine learning, multimodal learning, natural language processing, advanced deep learning architectures, generative models, and AI for science.

EEML advocates for equality and diversity and strives to improve access to education for all interested in this field. To encourage networking and collaboration, as well as to allow international participants to discover Novi Sad and Serbian culture, the EEML program will include a series of social events.
