Dr. Velibor Ilić, Research Associate at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia and a member of the Green AI research group, participated in the international CheMatSustain conference. Organized by the University of Bologna, the event brought together leading scientists, industry experts, and policymakers with the goal of fostering knowledge exchange and connecting science, policy, and industry in the fields of chemistry, materials, and nanotechnologies. Dr. Ilić took part as both an opening keynote speaker and a panelist.
In his keynote lecture, titled “The Future of AI in Chemical Materials”, Dr. Ilić shared visionary perspectives on the role of artificial intelligence in the development and application of new chemical materials. He highlighted how AI technologies are transforming research methodologies, accelerating development processes, and creating opportunities for safer and more sustainable innovations—from laboratory experiments to industrial-scale production.
In addition to his lecture, Dr. Ilić participated in the panel discussion “Strategic Alignment & Forward Visioning with Focus on AI, Policy, and Industry”, which addressed the need to align AI development with policy frameworks and industrial priorities, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and ethical implementation.
The conference also featured the official launch of the CheMatSustain Facility—an open-access platform designed for policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and the public. The initiative aims to promote innovations that are safe, sustainable, and aligned with the highest scientific and ethical standards in the field of chemicals and nanomaterials.
Through its participation in this event, the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia reaffirmed its commitment to international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and contributing to global initiatives that are shaping the future of sustainable technology.
