{"id":3997,"date":"2026-09-07T07:10:34","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T07:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ivi.ac.rs\/?post_type=news&#038;p=3997"},"modified":"2026-09-10T07:12:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T07:12:26","slug":"smart-technologies-for-more-efficient-stormwater-treatment","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ivi.ac.rs\/en\/news\/smart-technologies-for-more-efficient-stormwater-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"Smart Technologies for More Efficient Stormwater Treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New international research demonstrates how sensors, automated control systems, and weather forecasts can enhance conventional stormwater treatment systems and improve the removal of pollutants before they reach rivers and coastal ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research was conducted by an international team led by researchers at UNSW Sydney, with Dr Veljko Prodanovi\u0107, Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, as a member of the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The researchers developed an adaptive stormwater biofilter that combines natural treatment processes with smart technologies. The system uses sensors, automated controls, and weather forecasts to adapt the treatment process to changing conditions and improve the removal of pollutants from stormwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laboratory tests showed that this approach increased the removal of certain organic pollutants from approximately 76% to nearly 90%, compared with conventional biofilters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research has been published in Water Research, a leading international journal in the field of water research.
