{"id":3701,"date":"2026-02-23T08:43:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T08:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ivi.ac.rs\/?post_type=news&#038;p=3701"},"modified":"2026-03-02T08:45:41","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T08:45:41","slug":"people-and-algorithms-who-are-we-online-and-how-does-it-affect-mental-health","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ivi.ac.rs\/en\/news\/people-and-algorithms-who-are-we-online-and-how-does-it-affect-mental-health\/","title":{"rendered":"People and Algorithms \u2013 Who Are We Online and How Does It Affect Mental Health?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The panel discussion<strong> \u201cPeople and Algorithms \u2013 Who Are We Online and How Does It Affect Mental Health?\u201d<\/strong>, dedicated to identity in the digital age and the impact of algorithms on mental health, was held as part of the <strong>\u201cAI and Me\u201d<\/strong> series, organized by the European House Ni\u0161 in cooperation with the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia and the Youth Mental Health Club Ni\u0161.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion opened up a number of important questions about how our online identities are shaped in a world of filters, avatars, and AI-generated content, how much they differ from our authentic sense of self, and what consequences this gap may have for self-confidence, self-worth, and overall mental well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants reflected on the fact that social media and digital platforms are not neutral spaces, but environments in which algorithms actively influence visibility, modes of expression, and patterns of behavior. Particular attention was paid to the pressure of constant comparison and the \u201coptimization\u201d of one\u2019s identity for algorithms, as well as the effects such processes can have on anxiety, insecurity, and the sense of a stable identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the discussion, <strong>Dr. Ljubi\u0161a Boji\u0107, Senior Research Associate<\/strong> at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, spoke about the social aspects of artificial intelligence and the role of algorithms in shaping the digital \u201cself.\u201d The psychological perspective and the issue of mental health were further addressed by Dr. Milica Mitrovi\u0107, Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Ni\u0161, whose work focuses on identity and psychological well-being in contemporary society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel concluded with the message that, alongside technological development, it is essential to foster a more conscious and responsible approach to digital identities, as well as to strengthen understanding of the impact of artificial intelligence on everyday life and mental health.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"template":"","news-category":[],"class_list":["post-3701","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>People and Algorithms \u2013 Who Are We Online and How Does It Affect Mental Health?
