A team from the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia – research assistant Gorana Goji\u0107 and junior research assistants Milica \u0160kipina, Vladimir Vincan, and Nikola Jovi\u0161i\u0107<\/strong>\u2014participated in the Croatian Machine Learning Workshop<\/strong> (CMLW), a one-day event designed to strengthen the community of machine learning experts in Eastern Europe and support their professional growth through learning and the exchange of ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter participating in the EEML summer school, attending CMLW was a valuable opportunity for personal and professional development in the field of machine learning. Gathering participants from different regions, this event provided me with a platform to connect with like-minded individuals, share knowledge, and further enhance my machine learning skills through lectures by renowned experts from both industry and academia,\u201d<\/strong> said research assistant Gorana Goji\u0107<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milica \u0160kipina, a junior research assistant<\/strong>, added, \u201cParticipating in EEML was an incredible experience that allowed me to meet amazing people and experts in the field of machine learning. Due to those valuable contacts and inspiring conversations, CMLW was a chance to continue discussions started at EEML, meet new colleagues with similar interests, and deepen my knowledge of ML and AI. These events offer unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional growth, as they provide not only insights into the latest technologies but also the chance to build long-term connections with industry professionals.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Croatian Machine Learning Workshop<\/strong> was organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in Zagreb, Eastern European Machine Learning (EEML), and scientists from Google DeepMind, including Dr. Matko Bo\u0161njak, Dr. Razvan Pascanu, and Dr. Viorica Patraucean. As part of the EEML series, CMLW aims to explore advanced topics in machine learning and artificial intelligence and provide a platform for experts, students, and researchers to collaborate on advancing knowledge and exploring new possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe workshop hosted around 250 participants, 60% from academia and 40% from industry. Among them were representatives from universities and research institutes from Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and other countries, as well as local universities\u2014Zagreb, Osijek, Rijeka, and Split\u2014and the Technical Polytechnic of Zagreb, along with more than 40 local and international companies. We always look forward to opportunities to contribute to building a knowledge-based economy and technology transfer, as knowledge is the only resource that increases in value as it is shared,\u201d<\/strong> noted Dr. Matko Bo\u0161njak, Senior Scientist at Google DeepMind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the workshop, participants attended lectures by leading AI researchers. Esteemed speakers such as Razvan Pascanu (Google DeepMind), Diana L. Borsa (Google DeepMind & UCL), Ivan Vuli\u0107 (University of Cambridge), and Jovana Mitrovi\u0107 (Google DeepMind) shared insights into current research in areas like computer vision, natural language processing, and the design of novel neural architectures. These presentations enriched our researchers\u2019 understanding of state-of-the-art methods and approaches in the field of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to lectures, CMLW featured panel discussions where participants could ask questions, share experiences, and discuss challenges they face in their work. The team’s participation in this workshop not only enhanced their technical expertise but also opened new opportunities for potential collaborations and projects with international researchers and institutions. This kind of interaction contributes not only to the personal and professional development of our researchers but also strengthens the Institute’s reputation as a leading research institution in the field of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia will continue to encourage its researchers to take part in such events, as we believe that continuous learning, knowledge exchange, and networking with global experts are key to fostering innovation and progress in the AI field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
